The airmen could sell stolen account access to other hackers
Assessment
The Record wrote that the stolen financial data allowed the two men 'to either steal from the accounts themselves or sell the account access to other hackers.' The DOJ release describes the opposite flow. It says they harvested account and card data, 'purchased similar stolen information from their co-conspirators', exchanged it with one another and attempted transactions with it. Neither the release nor any public filing reviewed (judgment, plea reports, docket) mentions selling access. Help Net Security's account follows DOJ's wording. Nothing published supports the selling allegation.

Widely repeated, but no supporting evidence was located. This is not a statement that the claim is false — it is a statement that nothing published supports it, which is a different and more common problem.
