The two sentenced airmen are Nigerians resident in the United States

Assessment

Sahara Reporters' report of the sentencing, published 30 September 2026, opens by describing Chijioke Timothy Odimegwu and Harafat Mogaji as "Two Nigerians resident in the United States". The Justice Department's 29 September release calls them "Delaware men" and says only that both were members of the US Air Force at the time. No court filing reviewed for this paper, including Odimegwu's amended judgment and both plea reports, states either man's nationality or citizenship. The assertion may be accurate, but no primary source published so far supports it.

What “Unverified” means

Widely repeated, but no supporting evidence was located. This is not a statement that the claim is false — it is a statement that nothing published supports it, which is a different and more common problem.
