Weak Evidence

Attackers heated supermarket fridges to 50°C

Assessment

Les Mousquetaires and much coverage stated the fridges were heated 'to as much as 50°C,' which reads as the temperature the food reached. Le Monde's reporting (carried by L'Usine Digitale and Génération-NT) clarifies that 50°C was the defrost setpoint the attacker commanded on the controller, not a measured cabinet temperature. Employees on site described actual temperatures above 40°C, and one Intermarché store reported cases at 32°C against a normal −23°C setting; another outlet cited up to 80°C in the worst cases. The '50°C' figure is real but is a commanded setpoint, and repeating it as the food temperature overstates and mis-describes what was measured.

What “Weak Evidence” means

Evidence exists but is thin, circumstantial, or explicitly qualified as weak by the source that published it. Shared hosting infrastructure between threat clusters is the recurring example.
